This song from The Beetles has a special resonance for me on many levels. On New Year’s Eve, 1969, Marianne and I listened to a countdown of the top 100 songs of the decade. Number 1 was … “Let It Be.” Many of my poems contain the phrase “Let it be”. When I was visiting friends many years later, in the guest room a song was playing …… “Let It Be.” Especially now at a time of darkness, I resonate to the words, “There will be an answer, let it be.”
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be And when the brokenhearted people living in the world agree There will be an answer, let it be For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see There will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be There will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me Shine on 'til tomorrow, let it be I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, "Let it be" Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be Oh, there will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be Oh, there will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
