A Winter Dawn

How lovely is the winter dawn!
The gulls circle and glide
High in the sky.
The crows are not quite awake
As they sit on the branches
Of winter’s barren trees.

The clouds are tinged with gray.
Soon they will be transformed
Into pink and rose
As the sun begins its day’s journey.

The thin crescent moon
Shines down on me as if to say
“I am new
You can be too!”

The clouds that only moments ago
Framed that crescent
Have dispersed
And even as I watch
I see more and more
Of the clear blue sky.

Yes, my soul feels fresh and new.
On this beautiful winter morning
May I too be clear and true!
