It is cool but the sun is bright The sky is blue and cloudless Crocus are blooming and a robin has been seen The first geese have returned Flying in formation across the sky And swimming silently in the lake Trees have started to bud Yes, spring is surely in the air. The yellow ribbons are now tattered Silent reminders of a war now ended But a peace not won Of suffering multiplied Old hatred flaming out. A mind once agitated right now is calm The muted sounds of the city are heard In great pain a door opens Out of doubt faith springs Out of loneliness new hope arises That out of disorder and fragmentation A community will be born.
