The Spell

I had felt in a period of darkness Then today things started going right, one after the other. I was having fun! Will it last? As of the afternoon the spell was unbroken. And then I thought of this poem, written in October 2016 in Moses Cone Park in Blowing Rock, a special place for Marianne and me, and a place I have returned to many times. The particular hike was up to Flat Top Tower. I feel a definite yearning to return there when the weather warms up!

The Spell

The spell is holding this autumn day
A peak time for visitors
Indeed, I saw many on the upward hike
But at the top I was all alone
I felt the presence of my beloved
I lingered in the quiet, magical time.

And still on the way down
Pausing by a tree with twin trunks
Delicate wildflowers swaying in the gentle wind
We remain alone
The spell is unbroken.
